One in Five started in 2003 after a wonderful young man died by suicide. His family and friends were amazed to learn that one in five Australians live with a mental disorder every year, half of which do not have the answers they need to improve their health outcomes. After starting a research partnership with Prof Suresh Sundram in 2005, One in Five remains as one of the only independent, voluntarily run charity that is advocating for research that seeks to understand causes of illness, so we can improve diagnosis, unlock tailored treatments and hopefully one day find the cures for the most complex mental health disorders. Since starting our journey, we have raised over $3m for medical research.
